Urban-Holiday-LoftsUrban Holiday Lofts is tucked away on a quiet residential street just around the corner from Wicker Park’s most upscale shops and only one city block from the Damen station of the Blue Line ‘L.’ From Damen Avenue, turn west onto Wabansia Avenue at Silver Cloud Bar & Grill. Urban Holiday Lofts is next door, above Olivia’s Market. Use the intercom as the west-most door to get buzzed into the building, and walk up the stairs to the 24-hour reception desk. Guest rooms are on the second and third floors, and the hostel’s penthouse lounge occupies the fourth floor.

Shared and Private Guest Rooms and Baths

Urban Holiday Lofts provides hostel-style accommodations with touches of luxury. Choose a dorm bed in a shared room or book your own private room. Select a deluxe room for an en suite bathroom, or save on a standard room with a shared bath. Urban Holiday Lofts can even arrange for a private loft apartment with a kitchen and bath for your large group.

When you choose a shared room, you’ll select a male or female room and bunk with three to seven other travelers. Ladies can even save on a shared room and still select an en suite bath. Urban Holiday Lofts’ card system secures your room, and you can stow your belongings in the hostel’s free lockers and luggage storage.

Private rooms fit from one to 10 guests, and your private room can be a better deal than a shared room when you book it with a couple friends. Guest rooms are furnished with bunk beds and colorful side tables. If you love the luxurious high-thread-count linens, purchase a set for your own home from the concierge.

Big, bright, “loft-size” windows break up the bare-brick walls and light up each spacious room. Urban Holiday Lofts is open to any guests from outside the Chicago area, though guests under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

As a guest at Urban Holiday Lofts, you’ll have access to the fourth-floor lounge, a club room with elements of whimsy. This loft space features a bar, broad pub-style tables, a pool table and a home theater system with cable TV service. Access the free Wi-Fi with your laptop or tablet while you relax in the lounge, or use the computers the hostel furnishes for free.

In the community kitchen, enjoy free breakfast or cook up fresh groceries from Olivia’s Market or The Goddess and Grocer (1646 N. Damen Ave.). Urban Holiday Lofts provides daily housekeeping and on-site coin laundry to keep everything tidy throughout your stay.

If you’re bringing your car to Urban Holiday Lofts, book a private room and call to reserve free, off-street parking. Spots are limited, so be sure to secure one in advance. ‘L’ riders will enjoy being just one city block from the Blue Line’s Damen station, and the hostel will deduct your fare from the airport (or train or bus) from your stay. You can explore Wicker Park on one of their rental bicycles or join one of the hostel’s guided tours.

Marc-Jacobs-2Around the Corner from Designer Boutiques

Urban Holiday Lofts sits on Wabansia Avenue, a tree-lined residential street, just west of the luxury boutiques on Damen Avenue. The hostel occupies the floors above Olivia’s Market, an upscale neighborhood grocery and deli run by native Chicagoans and inspired by the corner markets of New York City. Next door, Silver Cloud Bar & Grill serves comfort food in a 1940s diner setting with a vintage 1920s bar and an outdoor patio.

Around the corner on Damen Avenue, you can shop for designer clothing and accessories at boutiques like RSVP Gallery (1753 N. Damen Ave.), where Kanye West has been spotted. Yi Helen (1725 N. Damen Ave.) stocks Derek Lam and Alexander McQueen, and Marc by Marc Jacobs and BCBG Max Azria have side-by-side eponymous boutiques at 1714 N. Damen Ave.

Walk one city block south on Damen Avenue to the six-corner intersection of North Avenue, Damen Avenue and Milwaukee Avenue. Here you’ll find the historical Flat Iron (1565-89 N. Milwaukee Ave.), Noel State Bank (1601-21 N. Milwaukee Ave.) and Northwest Tower (1606-08 N. Milwaukee Ave.) buildings. See a rock concert at Double Door (1572 N. Milwaukee Ave.) or Subterranean (2011 W. North Ave.), or take the Blue Line ‘L’ downtown from the Damen station.

Urban Holiday Lofts blends luxury and value near Damen Avenue’s best boutiques.
